After following up on their opening-day 3-1 win over Balestier Khalsa with a stunning 6-1 triumph at Warriors FC, the Jaguars entered Tuesday's game at the Queenstown Stadium expected to see off their younger opposition.
However, Harimau Muda showed plenty of enterprise early on and held their own against their opponents, although it was the hosts who came closest to scoring in the 41st minute when Monsef Zerka sent a shot back off the woodwork from close range.
But there was to be no denying Tanjong Pagar on the stroke of halftime as they took the lead through midfielder Kamel Ramdani, who lined up a freekick and curled home a delightful effort past Ilham Amirullah Razali.
13 minutes from time, the Jaguars thought they had added a second when Zerka netted with a diving header but it was chalked off for offside and just six minutes later, Harimau Muda earned a deserving share of the spoils when Asri Mardzuki equalised with a terrific 30-yard drive.
Over at the Bishan Stadium, Home United's miserable start to the season continued as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Woodlands Wellington in a heated encounter.
Following a goalless first half that was dominated by the hosts, Woodlands took the lead in the 68th minute when an error from opposition goalkeeper Jang Hong-won allowed Rosman Sulaiman's long-range freekick to sail all the way into the back of the net.
Four minutes later, Khalid Hamdaoui wrapped up the win for the Rams with a blistering 25-yard effort, but the game turned ugly in its closing stages as Woodlands striker Moon Soon-ho and Protectors duo Indra Sahdan Daud and Masato Fukui all received their marching orders.
