Ba attracted by Chelsea play

Chelsea striker Demba Ba believes Saturday's 1-0 win over West Brom showed why he was so keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Ba transferred to the Blues from the Toon in the winter transfer window and has notched up four goals since arriving.

The African scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over the Baggies at the weekend as Chelsea pushed their claim for UEFA Champions League football next season. It came after a lovely set-piece play which saw Frank Lampard and Oscar combining at a short corner with a cross then hit towards David Luiz for Ba to eventually tuck away.

"It was perfectly done," Ba was quoted as saying on the Chelsea website.

"I knew David Luiz in the position he was in at the back post couldn't finish it so I was just waiting for the ball on the edge of the six-yard line. He saw me and he put it back and I put it in the back of the net. It was a clever goal."

And while the scoreline may not be all that impressive at just 1-0, Ba was pleased with the number of chances his team created.

"We had a very good game, all together, the whole team," he said.

"The combinations that we made were very good and yes, we could probably have had more than one goal but on the day it was enough and at this time of year we take it.

"Chelsea played the sort of football I came here for. We created a lot of chances and congratulations to the defensive part of the team because they [West Brom] didn't create a lot of chances so it was a very good team performance."

Ba's goal came and resulting win as a welcome relief for manager Rafael Benitez who came under-fire in Saturday's game at Stamford Bridge for criticising supporters earlier that week.

"The way we played in the game showed we support whoever is in charge and we give our maximum for the manager, for the team, for the club and for the fans, because the fans are behind us and we have to give 100 per cent for them," Ba said.

"The players are behind the manager. He has our full support."

This week Chelsea will be at Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League before Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester United.
