Streich lauds Freiburg 'warriors' after draw

Freiburg coach Christian Streich praised his "warriors" for their 1-1 draw with Nuremberg on Saturday, despite missing the chance to go fourth in the Bundesliga.

Victory in Bavaria would have taken the Black Forest club above Eintracht Frankfurt and into their highest position of the season, but considering their dramatic 120-minute DFB-Pokal tie against Mainz in midweek, Streich was satisfied with his team's efforts.

"I'm so lucky to have lads like this," he said. "We have so many warriors who always want the ball, want to play football and never give up.

"They are always alert and want to play as good football as possible for 95 minutes.

"I could be disappointed not to have won but, quite the opposite, I'm delighted to have such lads."

A controversial penalty decision would have angered many coaches, but Streich took it in his stride, the same way his team did as they found an equaliser in the second half.

"We've had a few of them against us this year, but maybe we'll get one in our favour and then our opponents can get angry," he said.

"We in Freiburg have such an attitude that we are able to put setbacks behind us, like with this penalty.

"My lads just carried on and, in the end, the results come when you play well."
