European Football Monday Round-Up
A round-up of all the Monday action from the major football leagues around Europe.
Scottish Premier League
Rowan Vine grabbed two goals as St Johnstone leapfrogged Hibernian in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League with a 3-1 win at Easter Road.
Patrick Cregg was also on the scoresheet with a goal against his former employers, on a night when Steven MacLean failed to convert from the penalty spot and boost the scoreline further.
Leigh Griffiths did manage to pull a goal back for the home side late on but his effort failed to spark a comeback.
Portuguese Primeira Liga
A second-half fightback fell short for Braga as Pacos Ferreira beat them 3-2 at The Quarry to move clear in the race for Champions League football.
Christopher Hurtado scored in the 16th and 38th minutes to put the visitors in control and Semedo Cicero gave them a three-goal advantage five minutes into the second half.
Braga did their best to rally, with Leandro Salino scoring in the 56th minute and Antonio Eder adding a second just after the hour mark.
But they could not find a leveller, allowing Pacos to move four points clear of Braga in third place, which brings with it a place in the Champions League qualifiers.
Turkish Super Lig
Gaziantepspor have given themselves breathing room above the Super Lig drop zone with a 2-1 victory over Kasimpasa on Monday night.
All the goals came in the space of nine second-half minutes.
Cenk Tosun gave the hosts the lead in the 73rd minute, and although Kalu Uche levelled from the penalty spot with 10 minutes to go, it took only seconds for Darvydas Sernas to restore Gaziantepspor's lead.
The result carries Gaziantepspor three points clear of the bottom three, while denting Kasimpasa's bid for European football as they remain seventh, still only five points off second-placed Besiktas.
Greek Superleague
Platanias climbed out of the Superleague relegation zone with just their fifth victory of the season as they beat Aris Salonika 2-0.
Thomas Nazlidis put the home side ahead in the 45th minute before Giannis Gianniotas saw red for the visitors six minutes after the break.
Elias Anastasakos secured the win for Platanias after 63 minutes, for only their second win in their last nine.
The win lifts them above both Aris Salonika and Veria to go 13th.
