Iniesta: Barcelona is the best place to be

2012 proved to be a momentous year for Iniesta, as the midfielder picked up a second European Championship winner's medal with Spain whilst also being awarded the UEFA Best Player in Europe award.

Despite losing out on the 2012 FIFA Ballon d'Or to Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi, Iniesta has pushed on alongside the Argentinean in their club's bid to win La Liga and the Champions League.

Speaking to the team's official website, the Spaniard credited the success achieved in his career to the club's belief in him.

"The club has given me everything. It's the best place I could possibly be," Iniesta said.

"How I am playing will decide how far I can continue. The day I feel I can't give 100%, I'll not short change this club."

The Catalan side possess a comfortable nine point lead at the top of La Liga, an advantage many have attributed to Messi's scintillating goal-scoring form. Nonetheless, Iniesta pointed out that the efforts of his other team-mates were just as important.

"Everyone’s individual potential reaches its maximum when you are part of a team. Barça are better with Leo and Leo is better with us. Football isn’t an individual game – it’s a team sport where by working together, all of our individual abilities have a better chance to shine," he explained.

"I’m better with Leo, Leo’s better with us – that’s the important thing: that we are all aware of our responsibility in making things work. I think the secret is in the stability you have off the pitch and in my case, both parts of my life, professional and personal, are closely connected."

Barcelona welcome Getafe to the Camp Nou for their La Liga fixture this weekend.
