European Football Sunday Round-up
We round up the best of the footballing action across selected leagues in Europe.
French Ligue 1
Marseille were left counting the cost of Joey Barton's second-half dismissal as they slipped to a shock 1-0 defeat at home to lowly Nancy in Ligue 1 this evening.
The on-loan QPR midfielder was shown two yellow cards in the space of five minutes to leave OM facing an uphill struggle at the Stade Velodrome.
And an own goal from Andre Ayew capped off a miserable evening for the title hopefuls, who remain six points behind Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain.
It marked only the third win of the season for Nancy, lifting them off the foot of the standings and within four points of safety.
Adrian Mutu scored twice as Ajaccio inflicted a blow to Lyon's title hopes with a shock 3-1 win.
Lyon's loss meant PSG retain their three-point lead at the head of the standings.
When Lyon edged ahead early in the second half through Alexandre Lacazette it was all going to plan for Remi Garde's men.
But Ajaccio were soon level thanks to Chahir Belghazouani, before Mutu headed them ahead and added a late penalty, which also led to the dismissal of Lyon's Dejan Lovren.
Lyon earlier missed the chance to equalise from the spot when trailing 2-1, Bafetimbi Gomis seeing his effort saved by Guillermo Ochoa.
Reims remain in the relegation zone after squandering a first-half lead in a 3-1 defeat at Montpellier.
Gaetan Courtet put the visitors in front on 33 minutes, but Montpellier equalised just three minutes into the second half through Souleymane Camara and went on to claim all three points thanks to goals from Marco Estrada and Younes Belhanda.
Dutch Eredivisie
FC Twente's Eredivisie title hopes suffered a blow after they were beaten 4-2 at home by fifth-placed FC Utrecht.
Jens Toornstra's 32nd minute strike put Utrecht ahead before Twente defender Rasmus Bengtsson saw red a minute before the break.
Jacob Mulenga scored from the spot on the stroke of half-time and although Dusan Tadic reduced the arrears after 56 minutes, Dave Bulthuis soon restored the visitor's two-goal lead.
Tadic scored from the spot with 16 minutes left, but Mike van der Hoorn found the target for Utrecht to leave Steve McClaren's side four points off leaders PSV, who thrashed ADO Den Haag 7-0 last night.
Second-placed Ajax are three points off top spot following a comfortable 3-0 win at VVV Venlo.
Striker Siem De Jong set the ball rolling in the 34th minute, before second-half strikes from Viktor Fischer and substitute Derk Boerrigter sealed the win.
Feyenoord in fourth are five points off top spot after they won 3-1 at Willem II.
Graziano Pelle gave the visitors a 10th minute lead before Virgil Misidjan equalised from the penalty spot seven minutes before the break. Tony Vilhena scored a second half brace for Feyenoord to ensure victory.
Elsewhere, NEC Nijmegen beat Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 thanks to goals from Remy Amieux in the 38th minute and Ruud Boymans in the 67th, with Mike Havenaar on target for Vitesse.
Turkish Super Lig
Fenerbahce failed to make up lost ground on Super Lig leaders Galatasaray after suffering a surprise 2-1 home defeat to Sivasspor.
Antalyaspor's 1-0 win over Istanbul saw Fener pushed into fourth last night and they faced an uphill battle to reclaim third place when Michael Eneramo gave Sivasspor a 12th-minute lead.
Pierre Webo did manage to peg the visitors back in the 55th minute but Eneramo earned Sivasspor all three points with a winner on the stroke of full-time.
Trabzonspor, who were searching for a first win in six attempts, beat Gaziantepspor 4-1 at the Huseyin Avni Aker to move into ninth place.
Goals from Adrian Mierzejewski (20), Alanzinho (46), Gustavo Colman (51) and Halil Altintop (90) settled the tie before substitute Dorge Kouemaha scored a last-minute consolation for the visitors.
Ante Kulusic's second-half dismissal proved decisive for Genclerbirligi, who went down 2-1 at Orduspor in a mid-table clash.
Xavier Umbides nudged the hosts ahead in the 38th minute before Muslum Yelken notched the winner with 64 minutes on the clock, just six minutes after Kulusic had received his marching orders.
Elsewhere, Mersin Idmanyurdu missed the opportunity to climb out of the relegation zone after sharing a goalless draw with sixth-placed Eskisehirspor at the Ataturk Stadyumu.
Greek Super League
Olympiacos suffered a first defeat of the Super League season as a late goal from Elini Dimoutsos earned Atromitos a shock 3-2 victory in Piraeus.
The reigning Greek champions and league leaders were handed an early warning when Eduardo Brito opened the scoring inside two minutes.
Rafik Djebbour equalised seven minutes later and it seemed the Piraeus outfit were on course for a 17th league win of the season when Djamel Abdoun fired them ahead just before the break.
But with Olympiacos struggling to find a response to Thanassis Karagounis' 49th-minute leveller, Dimoutsos fired in a winner 10 minutes from time and hush soon descended in the Karaiskakis Stadium.
Third-placed PAOK stood to benefit most from Olympiacos' slip-up but they could only manage a 2-2 draw with Salonika rivals Aris.
In a lively start to proceedings Stefanos Athanasiadis saw his second-minute goal cancelled out by Aris striker David Aganzo within three minutes.
Abdoul Camara would restore PAOK's lead in the 26th minute but Aganzo completed his brace from the penalty spot with 19 minutes left on the clock.
Veria climbed out of the relegation places with a 2-0 win over mid-table Panthrakikos.
Two goals either side of the break from Moreno Guille proved enough for the northern outfit to exchange places with Platanias for the time being.
OFI Crete moved up to sixth and to within a single point of the European places after seeing off bottom side Kerkyra 2-0.
Thanassis Papazoglou (28) and Alexandros Perogamvrakis (45) scored the goals to book Crete a fourth consecutive home win.
Belgian Pro League
Nine-man Anderlecht snatched a 2-2 home draw against Standard Liege thanks to late Guillaume Gillet equaliser.
The Pro League leaders surrendered their 11-game winning run but in the end they were happy to claim a point after Milan Jovanovic and Lucas Biglia saw red.
Biglia had opened the scoring after just three minutes but that goal was cancelled out by Michy Batshuayi (23) before Jovanovic saw red on 41 minutes.
Standard forged 2-1 ahead through Yoni Buyens (53) only to go a man down themselves when William Vainqueur was sent off eight minutes later.
Anderlecht's hopes of a recovery seemed to end with Biglia's 81st-minute dismissal only for Gillet to fire in an equaliser five minutes from the end.
The draw means that Anderlecht are six points clear of closest rivals Zulte-Waregem.
Genk thrashed 10-man Club Brugge 4-1 following a Khaleem Hyland double.
Hyland opened the scoring on 13 minutes and when Laurens De Bock saw red he made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 58 minutes.
Club Brugge pulled a goal back through Carlos Bacca on 86 minutes but Genk quickly snuffed out any threat of a comeback with goals from substitutes Elyaniv Barda and Anthony Limbombe.

Portuguese Liga
Benfica kept up the pressure on Liga leaders Porto with a comfortable 3-0 win at home to struggling Vitoria Setubal tonight.
It took just five minutes for Enzo Perez to open the scoring before Rodrigo Lima (48) and Moreno Rodrigo (55) put the match to bed.
The win takes unbeaten Benfica level on points with the leaders, while Vitoria slipped to second from bottom because of Beira Mar's 3-3 draw with third-placed Braga.
The home side went two goals in front through Pinto Yazalde (12) and Rui Sampaio (33) but Braga pulled level with strikes from Antonio Eder (41) and Alan (45).
Beira Mar regained the lead with Ruben Ribeiro's 58th-minute effort but the points were shared when Joao Pedro struck 13 minutes from time.
Moreirense remain at the bottom but are now just three points adrift after picking up their second win of the season, 2-1 at Nacional.
Goals either side of the interval from Nabil Ghilas and Renato Junior set up the win, with Mario Rondon replying for the home side.
Gil Vicente were 4-2 winners over Maritimo in an action-packed match.
Joao Vilela's early penalty was joined by a Luis Carlos goal as Gil took a 2-0 lead at the interval.
David Simao pulled one back from the spot for Maritimo but a Hugo Vieira double sent the home side into a 4-1 lead before goalscorer Vilela was sent off.
However, Rafael Miranda's last-minute goal was little more than a consolation for the visitors with the damage already done.
The match between Olhanense and 10-man Academica finished goalless, with Edinho the man sent off.
