Scouted extensively by Liverpool staff over the past few months, Gamerio was identified as an alternative target for Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge.
Although the Reds are expected to complete the move for Sturridge at the end of the week, the Daily Telegraph reports that manager Brendan Rodgers remains interested in taking on Gameiro in a bid to strengthen his attacking options further.
The Frenchman is a versatile striker who is comfortable playing down the flanks and in the hole. At 25-years of age, Gameiro also fits the bill for the kind of player Liverpool owners want the club to be associated with, as the board are no longer willing to sanction expensive deals for players nearing 30.
Formerly one of Ligue 1's most feared attackers, Gameiro scored 14 goals in the previous campaign, but he has seen limited playing time at the Parc des Princes this season due to the arrival of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Sources in France indicate that Gameiro is interested in moving to Anfield as he hopes to restart his career with the playing time on offer.
