The Lions endured a wobbly start as they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in their very first game of the season. Winning six out of their past seven games, however, has helped them charge back up the table allowing them to finish in second place at the halfway mark of the season.
Saturday's 3-0 win was largely possible to Kiessling's hard work as the striker notched a brace and an assist. Moreover, the win also ensured that they remain the only side to have stayed unbeaten at home in the new season.
"The fact we're second in the league and have produced so many good performances shows the depth of the squad - and our mental strength. We go into the winter break with 17 tough games to come," an enthusiastic Kiessling spoke after the game.
"I've had a really successful season so far. I'm happy it's all worked out so well and hope I can take this form into the New Year."
Kiessling has now scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga and has become the league topscorer after the brace. And he hopes that his goals continue to help Leverkusen prosper in the new year allowing them a chance to achieve success in the DFB-Pokal Cup and the Europa League.
"It will be tough but we want to be in all three competitions in January," he announced.
