Inter struggled during the game and, perhaps, were missing the influence of suspended striker Antonio Cassano and Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who did not play due to an ongoing contract dispute.
Despite a poor second half display, Stramaccioni's side managed to secure the points after Palermo defender Santiago Garcia deflected a cross from Andrea Ranocchia into his own net in the 74th minute.
"It'd been a few games since I breathed a sigh of relief," Stramaccioni said on the Inter website.
"At times like this, when we're not at our best, I enjoyed our performance today [Sunday], we showed consistency. We gave everything and created some clear-cut chances in the first half, but we faded somewhat in the second.
He added: "My forward line was under too much pressure from their back 5 today [Sunday], Palermo leave very little space when they get everyone behind the ball."
The win puts the Nerazzurri back into third place in Serie A behind Napoli, second, and current leaders Juventus as they both won their respective games at the weekend as well.
