Torres arrived at Stamford Bridge midway through the 2010/11 season with a big reputation and massive price tag at £50million. At the time of his move from Liverpool, Torres had scored 65 goals in 102 league appearances for the Reds - 81 goals in 142 games in all competitions.
The Spain international was rightly considered one of the top hitmen in the Barclays Premier League - and his record against the Blues was an incredible seven goals in seven games.
Expectations were high.
However, Torres only found the net once during his debut season (albeit half a season) and in his first full season at the club the striker nicknamed 'El Nino' scored only six times in the Premier League.
So far this season, Torres has only netted four times despite starting every Premier League game (11) for the Blues.
"They wanted to give Torres a chance. Has he taken it? I don't know," Gullit said in The Sun.
"What he had done in the past at Liverpool and at Atletico was unbelievable. And he can't do it for some reason [at Chelsea]. I don't know why, I have no clue. It's a mystery.
"But if he can't do it then Chelsea need to do something else."
Torres moved to the Premier League with Liverpool aged 23 having spent the previous 12 years at Atletico Madrid.
He scored three hat-tricks on the way to 33 goals in his first season in England.
