The club skipper recently made his 600th appearance for Liverpool in a home Premier League game against Newcastle, and is now poised to collect his 100th cap for his country when England play Sweden in a friendly on Wednesday.
Rodgers told the club's official website that the landmarks Gerrard has accumulated are deserving reward for the midfielder's industry in the middle of the park.
"I watched him from the outside for a long time, but to actually work with him day to day, you realise he's great player and an even better man," he stated.
"The way he conducts himself on and off the field, he has real old-school values and ethics. He never has a lazy day. He comes in every day to work hard and is a real inspiration to the young players at the club."
While critics argue that Gerrard's contributions have diminished in recent years, Rodgers backed his captain to remain an important player for Liverpool.
"He's still got a few years left in him yet. He's been outstanding, a real good man, and hopefully he can keep performing," he said.
"He's a wonderful role model and he's just made his 600th appearance for Liverpool which is absolutely incredible."
