The 23-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best players currently plying his trade in Brazil, and has spent the last couple of years being linked with a move to Europe, with Tottenham reportedly very keen on his services.
However, it now appears Spain is where Damiao hopes to move to one day after admitting his admiration for Los Blancos, although he admits there's still plenty of time for such a move to eventuate.
"Every footballer dreams of playing at a club such as Real Madrid," he told UOL. "But I am only 23 and there is plenty of time to take that step forward.
"Now is not the moment to be thinking of playing in Europe. I just want to continue improving and scoring goals."
The Brazil international also stressed he was perfectly happy at Internacional, but concedes he will one day want to broaden his horizons in Europe.
"I have a contract with Porto Alegre," Damiao added. "I love it here and do not feel the need to move away right now.
"[Nonetheless] it is obvious that the day will come when I leave Brazil to go and play in Europe."
Damiao was a member of the Brazil Under-23 side that won the silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and netted a total of six goals in the tournament.
