The Argentinian forward tore the meniscus in his left knee during the Blucerchiati's 2-1 home defeat to Atalanta, but still managed to complete 90 minutes of the game.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Sampdora can confirm that Maxi Lopez underwent surgery to fix the meniscus in his left knee at Villa Stuart this morning [Wednesday].
"The surgery, conducted by Professor Pier Paolo Mariani, was a complete success.
"Maxi will begin his rehabiliation in the next few days."
The 28-year-old, who is currently on a season-long loan deal from Catania, has scored three goals in nine appearances for Samp.
