Global, who are the reigning champions of the United Football League, entered the clash on a high after finishing top of Group A, having scored 18 goals in four matches.
Kaya, on the other hand, had to settle for second spot behind Green Archers United in Group B, which was the reason why both Filipino giants were meeting this early in the knockout round of the competition.
In a lively first half which saw both sides create their fair share of openings, it was Global who drew first blood in the 35th minute when Demitrius Omphroy opened the scoring.
However, they were pegged back by their opponents on the stroke of halftime when midfielder Eddie Mallari netted with a spectacular 35-yard strike.
The open nature of the match continued after the break but with neither side able to find the back of the net again, the game then went into extra time and just two minutes in, Global grabbed what proved to be the winner when Philippines international Misagh Bahadoran scored.
Next up for Global is a semi-final encounter against either Army or Loyola Meralco Sparks.
