Vilanova became the first manager in Barca's history to record nine wins in the opening ten games of La Liga following Saturday's 3-1 victory over Celta Vigo.
Rather than celebrate this personal milestone, Vilanova, who only landed the job in the summer after rising from the role of assistant to former coach Pep Guardiola, placed more importance on the 28 points won so far this season.
"Besides the record what's important are the points that we've won," he said on the club's website.
"It's not easy [to break these kinds of records] seeing that you have to beat teams like Celta. This record is a demonstration of the desire these players have to win."
The club's director of football Andoni Zubizarreta was slightly more open to praising the achievement - describing Barca's start as "practically impeccable".
He added: "The objective is not to have the best start but to get to the month of May and win the title."
Jordi Alba sealed the points for the Catalans just after the hour mark.
Barca currently hold a three point lead in La Liga over Atletico Madrid, who lost to Valencia on Saturday.
Defending champions Real Madrid sit third, eight points behind Barca.
