Owen, Capello top British football rich list

Michael Owen and Fabio Capello are the richest player and manager respectively in Four Four Two Magazine's list of the wealthiest people in British football.

Football News: Michael Owen

Owen's name would come as a surprise to some, given that the striker has suffered from frequent injuries and has not had many opportunities to play for Manchester United.

However, a slew of lucrative sponsorship and endorsement deals have seen the Englishman pip the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney. Owen's net worth is estimated to be around £40 million, with Ferdinand at £36 million, and Giggs and Rooney at £30 million each.

If all English players, including those plying their trade abroad are considered, David Beckham is gilded streets ahead of everyone - with a measly £135 million to his name. To put that in perspective, Tuvalu - a tiny country in the Pacific - has a GDP of £32 million

Beckham topped the 2010-11 list as well, with £100 million and has added a cool £35 million to the kitty in the past year.

The list of wealthiest coaches is filled with the usual suspects. England manager Fabio Capello comes out top with £38 million, followed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Roberto Mancini and surprise, surprise - Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The wealthiest club owners didn't throw up too many surprises - with Manchester City's Sheikh Mansour valued at £20 billion, followed by Uzbek tycoon Alisher Usmanov, who owns 29.28 per cent of Arsenal and steel magnate Laxmi Mittal who owns 33 percent owner of Queen's Park Rangers.
