The Football Association of Ireland confirmed on Friday that the Turks will play at the Aviva Stadium on May 25.

Their visit will rekindle unhappy memories for the Republic, who missed out on a place at the finals of Euro 2000 after a 0-0 play-off draw in Bursa sent Turkey through on the away goals rule.

Ireland, who face Serbia in Dublin next month, are hoping to arrange further fixtures at the end of the current season with manager O'Neill planning in earnest for the start of the Euro 2016 qualifiers in September.
