Roma win a warning to Serie A rivals

Roma captain Francesco Totti believes his team sent a strong warning to their Serie A title rivals with Sunday's 3-1 win at Hellas Verona.

The Giallorossi's scudetto credentials came into question after a 3-0 league loss at Juventus earlier this month.

However, Roma have responded with a convincing performance in Verona four days after beating Juve 1-0 to reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

"It was important for us to send a stern message in Serie A after Juve dropped points on Saturday," Totti said to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We are a top team and we are at the level of Juve."

The win in Verona allowed Roma to cut the gap to Juve to six points after the Turin giants were held to a 1-1 draw at Lazio on Saturday.

Moreover, Roma extended their lead over third-place Napoli to six points after the Naples outfit was held to a 1-1 draw against Chievo.

"It wasn't easy to take three points in Verona," Roma coach Rudi Garcia said. "From a psychological standpoint we've had an important week.

"Now we know that Juve are beatable, even though they are very strong.

"We have to be ready to take advantage if our rivals drop points.

"We cannot forget that Juve still have to play in Rome in Serie A.

"My players just have to keep working hard and make the most of our chances."

Roma host Parma on Sunday, while Juve take on Inter Milan in Turin in the derby d'Italia.
