The Dutch coach announced before Christmas that he would not shave again until Nurnberg finally won their first game of the season.
That happened at the 18th attempt on Saturday when they beat Hoffenheim 4-0, becoming the first team all season to prevent the Baden-Wurttemberg club from scoring, but perhaps equally importantly for Verbeek, allowing him to remove a cluster of grey hairs from his face.
"I'm pleased with the result, and of course that my beard has finally gone," said the 51-year-old.
"It wasn't our best game, yet we've won 4-0. We've played better than this and not got anything. Maybe 2014 will be our year."
Nevertheless, Verbeek is not making any more similar pledges with his side still three points adrift of safety, despite Saturday's win.
"The hair on my head is going to stay long, there's no question about that," he said with a smile.
