Knee injury sidelines Nurnberg's Hasebe

Nurnberg midfielder Makoto Hasebe could be out of action for six weeks after suffering a knee injury in the 5-1 win over Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Japan international had an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed a tear to his outer medial ligament following an awkward fall in the match.

He returned to Japan on Thursday and the club have confirmed that he will have surgery on Friday and then continue his rehabilitation in his homeland.

"In consultation with the leaders of the club and club doctor Dr. Matthias Brem, this will take place on Friday evening, performed by a doctor of the Japanese national team," read a statement on www.fcn.de.

"On Thursday, the midfielder made his way to his home, where he will enter immediately into rehab after the surgery at the National Training Centre Tokyo, the sports centre of the Japanese national team.".

Nurnberg return to Bundesliga action against Hoffenheim on January 25, where they will go in search of their first league win of the campaign following 11 draws and six losses which have left them second bottom of the standings.
