Coutinho still believes in World Cup dream

Philippe Coutinho is confident a good season with Liverpool will earn him a place in Brazil's World Cup squad.

Coutinho was compared to Ronaldinho by compatriot Sandro, but the Anfield playmaker still has just one cap to his name - and that came way back in 2010.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has consistently ignored Coutinho, who is approaching the first anniversary of his arrival at Liverpool from Inter in an £8.5m deal.

But the 21-year-old said: "I see it as a stairway really.

"You play good football, then you play for a good team and then you achieve the level where you are invited to play for the Selecao - and then you have a good World Cup."

Liverpool will go into the Christmas programme in touch with the top of the Premier League having lost just three of their opening 15 games.

And Coutinho said: "Winning the championship is what we are all dreaming of and working towards.

"I feel like I am part of a big family here. There is a Brazilian feel about the place."
