The Bremen coach lifted the Baden-Wurttemberg outfit into the top flight in 2008 and he looks back fondly on his time there before he moved to Leverkusen in 2011.
However, that does not mean Freiburg can expect any favours in picking up their first win of the season at the Weserstadion.
"We desperately want to win this game with all our might and emotions don't come into it," Dutt said.
"I had a special time in Freiburg. They were the four most beautiful years I've had in football and I like to think back to this time."
Indeed, compared to the pressure Dutt felt at Leverkusen, and currently feels Bremen, where the expectation levels are in another bracket, it is easy to understand that the comparably calm surroundings of the Black Forest must have felt like paradise.
He therefore does not expect current Freiburg coach Christian Streich to be feeling the strain with his club still winless in the Bundesliga this season.
"He's a great colleague, a football expert and a Freiburger through and through," Dutt added. "We have much respect for each other.
"Freiburg have been through many a difficult situation and they just need time. I'm sure they'll avoid relegation comfortably, they just need to keep calm."
Time should be given to Streich too, even if there is not much of it going around.
After Saturday's trip to Bremen, he must prepare his side for a Europa League clash with Estoril before hosting Hamburg next weekend.
His priority is the trip to the Weserstadion, however.
"We want to focus on our second half against Frankfurt and look to build on that," Streich said.
"We took the initiative and created chances there. We must not let the atmosphere unsettle us.
"We want to be courageous, play good football and manage to remain stable and contend with Bremen the way we did with Frankfurt."
Vaclav Pilar could be in line for his Freiburg debut, although Vladimir Darida may have to wait a while longer before taking his bow due to an injury he picked up while on international duty.
Mensur Mujdza is still out while Oliver Sorg is a doubt.
