After being awarded a record-breaking new contract earlier in the week, Cristiano Ronaldo led the way for Real Madrid with a hat-trick, while team-mate Karim Benzeman notched a brace and Isco finished with a goal to his name to complete the rout of Galatasary at the Turk Telekom Arena on Tuesday night.
The world's most expensive player, Gareth Bale, came off the bench to assist Ronaldo in one of his strikes, before Los Blancos' Turkish opponents secured a late consolation thanks to Umut Bulut.
Speaking to the club's official website, Ancelotti was glad his team secured three points as he revealed that Real's performance in the opening encounters of the game had him worried.
"The result does not reflect the match. It was difficult and in my opinion the Galatasaray had a great first half. We struggled, but after Isco’s goal it was easier, we had more opportunities to counterattack," he pointed out.
"I think we started the match with a bit of a lack of confidence and did not show the right attitude to be able to control the play. We controlled things at the back and Galatasaray pressured well. But it is normal, it was the first Champions League match in a very tough stadium to play in. It was important to win the first match."
Spanish skipper Iker Casillas started in goal after playing second fiddle to Diego Lopez for all of Los Blancos' La Liga fixtures this season, but featured for only 13 minutes before being forced off with a rib injury. Nevertheless, Ancelotti was optimistic that the veteran goalkeeper would be on the mend soon.
"Casillas was unlucky and I hope that he will be better in three or four days. Inside very few minutes Iker made a great save and showed the good form he is in," he said.
"It was just a knock, it is only pain, but he could not carry on. He is not worried about it and will make a quick recovery."
Real Madrid return to domestic action this weekend when they welcome Getafe to the Santiago Bernabeu.
