Widely regarded as one of world football's hottest prospects after breaking onto the scene at Brazilian giants Santos, Neymar was long linked with a move to Europe's biggest clubs before finally signing for the Catalan outfit in May for a reported €57million.
As it became apparent that the 21-year-old's time at Santos was coming to an end, it began to look certain he would end up either at Barca or Real, and Rosell has now claimed the latter attempted to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu even when he was finalising talks with his club.
"When we reached a pre-agreement with Neymar's father, the player had already passed a medical with Real Madrid," he said on TV3's 'Hat-trick' programme.
"We joked that we could save ourselves the money of doing the [medical] tests ourselves.
"When we were signing the contract, Madrid was sending emails to Santos."
Back in May, Real president Florentino Perez claimed his club gave up in their pursuit of Neymar as it would have cost them €150m to seal a deal for the Brazil international's services.
