Gignac was rewarded on Thursday for his strong start to the new Ligue 1 season with a call-up to the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Belarus.
France have not scored in their last four games - friendlies against Uruguay, Brazil and Belgium following a potentially costly 1-0 qualifying defeat at home to world champions Spain.
Gignac has scored in each of Marseille's three games this season and could make the starting XI for next Friday's clash in Georgia and the trip to Belarus four days later ahead of the likes of Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud.
Deschamps has mixed memories of Gignac from his time as coach of Marseille, but was pleased to have included a player who has not played for the national team since the disappointing World Cup finals campaign in South Africa three years ago.
"This is a player who has a good efficiency and may have a role to play," he said of the 27-year-old.
"When I was coaching in Marseille, we had some relationship problems.
"After that, several months have passed. We talked again later. This is not something that would have caused me to not select him."
Yohan Cabaye has been left out due to his ongoing dispute with club side Newcastle - the midfielder has missed the Magpies' first two games of the new Premier League season after indicating a desire to leave St James' Park.
"He has not played since early August with Newcastle, so his absence makes sense," explained Blanc, who stuck with young midfielders Josuha Guilavogui and Geoffrey Kondogbia, who has yet to complete his move to Monaco.
The squad is: Landreau (Bastia), Lloris (Tottenham), Mandanda (Marseille); Abidal (Monaco), Clichy (Man City), Debuchy (Newcastle), Evra (Man United), Koscielny (Arsenal), Mangala (Porto), Rami (Valencia), Sagna (Arsenal); Capoue (Tottenham), Grenier (Lyon), Guilavogui (St Etienne), Kondogbia (Sevilla), Matuidi (Paris St Germain), Pogba (Juventus), Sissoko (Newcastle); Benzema (Real Madrid), Gignac (Marseille), Giroud (Arsenal), Nasri (Man City), Payet (Marseille), Ribery (Bayern Munich), Valbuena (Marseille).
