Harimau Selatan are coming off the back of a disappointing Super League campaign, where they finished third behind LIONSXII and Selangor despite their big-spending ways.
However, the Johor outfit have a chance to make amends in the Malaysia Cup, which starts next month, and have been handed a relatively straightforward route to the knockout round after being pitted against PKNS FC, T-Team and FELDA United in Group B.
And Kamarul admits reaching the final is the target they have set their sights on, something he believes can be achieved.
"I hope JDT [Darul Takzim] will enter the final this year," he told Bernama.
"With careful preparation, I feel that we can meet our target of reaching the final."
Despite what seems like an easy draw, Kamarul was quick to stress that Darul Takzim had to avoid complaceny if they wanted to avoid a shock group-stage exit.
"For me, whoever we face in the group will be determined to beat us and we will be ready to face them," he added.
"What's more important is for us to give our best performance in the group stages so we can qualify for the next round."
Kamarul was one of the few bright lights for Darul Takzim during the league campaign as he performed admirably in the heart of defence.
