Heading into Tuesday's game at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium with a 4-1 lead from last Saturday's first leg in Kota Bharu, the Red Warriors were expected to comfortably play out the second leg adn seal their progress to the final.
However, it took Terengganu just five minutes to open the scoring when an error in judgement from Khairul Fahmi saw him allow a freekick from Cameroonian defender Vincent Bikana to bounce over him and into the back of the net.
Three minutes before the half-hour mark, G. Puaneswaran netted a second to put the hosts firmly back in the tie and when Jean-Emmanuel Effa Owona made it 3-0 in the 71st minute, it was the Turtles who were set to progress to the final on the away goals rule.
Terengganu's position was made even more secure in the second minute of injury-time when Abdul Manaf Mamat added a fourth, but right at the death, the visitors made it 5-5 on aggregate through an effort from Obinna Nwaneri to force extra-time.
With both sides struggling to find the breakthrough in the additional 30 minutes of play, it then looked as though the match was heading to penalties until the 119th minute, when Dickson Nwakaeme pounced on the rebound to score and send Kelantan through to the final.
