Although V. Sundramoorthy's charges headed into Saturday's game on the back of last weekend's impressive 3-1 home win over ATM, they were expected to struggle against the Red Giants given their poor away form and the absence of a number of first-team players.
While they did enough to come away with a point in the end, they did have goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud to thank as he made a series of fine stops, starting in the 6th minute when he reacted well to keep out Francis Forkey Doe's ferocious half-volley at his near post.
The Singapore international then spilled a long-range drive by K. Gurusamy four minutes before the half-hour mark but recovered well to deny Amri Yahyah on the follow up, before his opposite number Norazlan Razali produced an outstanding save to tip over a firm effort by Hariss Harun, who had been picked out just inside the area by Shahril Ishak's clever cutback.
Nonetheless, Izwan continued to be the busier of the two keepers and ensured his side left the Shah Alam Stadium with something to show for their efforts with another good stop six minutes from time; racing off his line to deny Doe in a one-on-one situation.
The result was enough to see the LIONSXII extend their lead after second place Darul Takzim fell to a shock 3-0 loss at Perak.
The star of the show for Seladang was new signing Paulo Rangel, who broke the deadlock for the hosts in the 12th minute, before doubling his and his side's tally seven minutes after the hour mark when he raced onto a lovely through-pass by Abdul Hadi Yahya to score.
And with two minutes remaining, the ex-Muangthong United striker completed his hat-trick with a fantastic strike to take his tally to four goals in three games for Perak.
Defending champions Kelantan recorded their first win in four games in all competition after beating T-Team 3-1 at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium.
Dickson Nwakaeme fired the Red Warriors ahead nine minutes before the break, before Norfarhan Muhammad doubled their tally when he netted in the 65th minute.
Damir Ibric did pull one back for the Titans nine minutes from time with a penalty to give them late hope, but Indra Putra Mahayuddin struck in injury-time to seal a much-needed win for Kelantan.
