ATM lost 3-2 to Kelantan in the cup final last year and the result still rankles Hairuddin who will have the chance to heal the wounds when his side takes on the same opponents in the 2013 curtain-raiser at the Shah Alam Stadium.
"I want to seek revenge for our loss to Kelantan in the final match of the Malaysia Cup last year. The loss has affected me since then," he told Utusan Malaysia.
"We are confident that we are able to defeat them that day but it seems like our luck ran dry when we reached extra time."
"A win will help to boost our confidence before the Malaysia Super League starts," the ATM captain said.
Hai-O is prepared to start in any position for his side, as deemed fit by coach B.Sathianathan.
"I have been playing in midfield before this but it will not be a problem to me if I have to play up front to replace Marlon [James] for the match this Saturday.
"I think I have enough experience to play as a striker and I want to start the brand new year with a win for the team."
ATM have lost three key players, Aidil Zafuan, Zaquan Adha and Azmi Muslim who have all moved to Johor Darul Takzim for the new season but Hairuddin still believes in his newly-promoted team's ability to win another trophy this year.
"The absence of these three players were greatly felt but we will move on to achieve more in the new season.
"The arrival of new players like R. Surendran and Shukor Adan will definitely benefit us and we are confident to win at least another trophy this year."
