The 32-year-old, who has spent his entire career with the Red Giants, was recently recalled to Harimau Malaya by K. Rajagobal, and repaid his national team boss' faith in him by scoring a fine effort in their 3-1 friendly defeat to La Liga champions Barcelona.
And with Selangor just days away from starting the Malaysia Cup campaign, Irfan is hoping his talismanic striker can continue his good form as they look to claim a record 33rd title.
"Of course I am proud to see Amri score against one of the best clubs in the world," he told Sinar Harian.
"I hope he can continue the momentum for Selangor and forget his success with the national team.
"I want him to stay focused and play as [part of] a team when we meet Johor at Pasir Gudang [Corporation Stadium] this Tuesday."
Although Selangor and ATM are expected to qualify for the quarter-finals from Group A, Irfan insists they still have reason to be wary of the other two teams looking to make the last eight.
"Although Sime Darby and Johor are from the Malaysia Premier League, we cannot take them lightly," he added. "And ATM will surely be a tough team to beat.
"But I believe that we can go through the group stages and proceed to the quarter-finals."
Selangor's last Malaysia Cup title came back in 2005, when they beat Perlis 3-0 in the final to win their 32nd title.
