Manchester City vs Reading Player Ratings
Manchester City eventually set up a derby FA Cup semi-final clash with United by seeing off Reading 1-0 on Sunday.
Manchester City
Joe Hart - 6
Had nothing to do, except claim a few crosses here and there.
Micah Richards - 7.5
Didn't defend that well but showed real character. His manager had reportedly given him a dressing down in midweek for some poor performances and to get the winning goal was a great reaction by Richards.
Vincent Kompany - 7
Showed Shane Long how hard it will be to score in the Premier League should the Reading striker decide to make the step up with another club. Marked him out of the game.
Joleon Lescott - 6.5
Did OK, but he'll need to up his game if he intends to replace the suspended Toure in the long term.
Aleksandar Kolarov - 6.5
He's got a fierce shot but again, as seen in many City games, his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired.
Nigel De Jong - 6.5
Did his job with little fuss.
Patrick Vieira (Off 70') - 6
No longer a box-to-box midfielder, he was taken off and replaced with Balotelli when City needed to find a goal from somwhere.
Gnegneri Toure Yaya - 6
He had a couple of good chances in the Reading box to score but failed to make the most of them.
Shaun Wright-Phillips - 7
The former-Chelsea winger was one of City's most productive attacking options against Reading.
Carlos Tevez - 7
Denied very little space to work with but still conjured up half chances and worked well with Silva.
David Silva - 7.5
No goals for Silva but he was again City's best player on the park. His passing and movement was simply superb but he didn't have his shooting boots on.
Subs
Mario Balotelli (On 70') - 7
Thrown on to get a goal, the Italian showed a bit of maturity with some fine set piece defending late in the game.
Gareth Barry (On 83') - N/A
Dedryk Boyata (On 90') - N/A
Reading
Alex McCarthy - 7
Made some solid stops to deny Silva and company any goals until Richards popped up late in the game from a corner. There really wasn't muct the keeper could do about that though.
Jay Tabb (Off 86') - 7
Gave as good as he got in what was a good Cup battle between two very different sides.
Brynjar Gunnarsson - 6.5
Gunnarsson struggled at times to track the movement of Silva.
Zurab Khizanishvili - 7
The former Blackburn Rovers man was excellent and almost single-handedly frustrated City's attack.
Ian Harte - 6
Good set-piece taker but his lack of pace was clearly evident against the speedy Wright-Phillips.
Jimmy Kebe - 6.5
Reading were very one-dimensional and could have used with some better crossing and passing from Kebe.
Jem Karacan - 6
Toure's power posed Karacan some problems.
Mikele Leigertwood - 6
Overran by City's midfielders.
Jobi McAnuff (Off 62') - 6.5
It was a shame he wasn't fully fit against City because he might have made a difference for the underdogs.
Shane Long - 6.5
Worked his socks off but failed to show immediate signs that he is ready to play Premier League football next season.
Noel Hunt (Off 76') - 6
Had to feed off scraps.
Subs
Hal Robson Kanu (On 62') - 6
Came on for McAnuffbut failed to make an impression.
Simon Church (On 76') - N/A
Brian Howard (On 86') - N/A
