Dalglish: Critics need intelligence check

Manager Kenny Dalglish has hit out at Liverpool's detractors, claiming they need an "intelligence check".

Dalglish's side have come in for criticism during a campaign in which they look unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.

The Reds sit seventh in the Barclays Premier League - below their sixth-placed finish last term - as inconsistency has plagued their bid to return to Europe's premier competition.

Despite that Dalglish has earned success in the cup competitions, winning the Carling Cup last month, while they could also return to Wembley if they can overcome Stoke in today's FA Cup quarter-final at Anfield.

Dalglish believes those successes prove his side are enjoying a good season and denied the league was the main measure of their fortunes.

"I think people should take an intelligence check. It's not true that you should only look at the league table," he was quoted as saying by several newspapers.

"Some people will look at that but there's a bigger picture than that.

"There are two other competitions which people say are treated with disrespect.

"Judging by league positions is also disrespectful. For us, all we have said is we want to move the club forward.

"On the pitch I think it's moved forward. We will just keep going and believe in what we are doing."
