Lukasz Fabianski - 6
He could not be blamed for either of the goal conceded but showed some nervy moments which went unpunished.
Per Mertesacker - 6
Dominant in the air, and even had his effort from a corner cleared off the line by Ireland. His positioning defensively, however, was a far cry from his previous game against Manchester United.
Thomas Vermaelen - 6.5
Tested Given with his trademark rocket shots from distance in the early minutes. Could not go forward as often as he had to keep things tight at the back with Bent and Keane always waiting to pounce.
Laurent Koscielny - 7.5
Caught ball watching when Dunne rose above everyone else to nod the ball in for the goal. He was clearly on a mission when the scores were level at 2-2 and earned his team the second penalty of the game. It's not often to see a defender fouled by a striker to earn a penalty!
Francis Coquelin - 6.5
Showed great determination and desire to win balls and get forward with Walcott. It is a pity Sagna is back to reclaim his right back position.
Tomas Rosicky (72' off) - 7.5
A very productive performance from the Czech international, keeping possession with ease and winning numerous successful tackles in the middle of the park.
Alex Song - 7
It was his pass to Ramsey which led to the penalty and eventually the turn around. Bossed the midfield throughout the match.
Theo Walcott (88' off) - 7
Was extremely quiet till that surging run down the right and the ball somehow pinballed off his chest into the back of the net. Wenger's half time pep talk worked wonders on this kid as he was a totally different player after the restart. He needs to improve on his decision-making though.
Aaron Ramsey - 6.5
Not the best technically, but he was always the willing runner to get forward in support or rush back to cover for his defenders. He even managed to win Arsenal a penalty, which was the catalyst for the comeback.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (88' off) - 7
Doesn't play like he is 18, taking on defenders and always choosing the more sensible option instead of letting his ego get the better of him.
Robin Van Persie - 8
Consistently closing down players and stretching the Villa defence throughout the match. Had an integral part to play in ensuring Arsenal go through to the next round after converting the two penalties, sending Given the wrong way twice.
Mikel Arteta (72' on) - 6
Came on to keep possession and to safeguard Arsenal's slender lead.
Thierry Henry (88' on)
Bacaray Sagna (88' on)
Shay Given - 6
He was both clueless and helpless when the ball landed in the back of his net thrice.
Richard Dunne - 6
Stunned the Emirates faithful with his 33rd minute goal, but the hero soon turned villain after a late challenge on Ramsey and was he a lucky boy not to be sent off for a second bookable offence?
Stephen Warnock - 5.5
Struggled with the likes of Walcott and Coquelin down the left and things took a turn for the worst in the second half.
Alan Hutton - 4
His pass completion rate was horrible and was tormented by an 18 year old all game. Arsenal have him to thank for his "clearance" which landed in the back of his own net.
Carlos Cuellar - 6
Probably Villa's best defender of the day before his side crumbled in the opening minutes of the second half and Arsenal stamped their authority on the match.
Ciaran Clark - 4
Could not get the better of the Arsenal midfielders and should have been replaced by Bannan much earlier if Alex McLeish was serious about getting anything from the game.
Stiliyan Petrov (82' off) - 6
Not even Petrov could weather the storm when Arsenal got their act together in the second period. He was grossly outplayed in the middle of the park.
Stephen Ireland - 5.5
His brilliantly weighted pass to set up Bent for Villa's second goal. Nothing too sophisticated in his approach to this game but nothing special to break Arsenal up either.
Robbie Keane - 6.5
Worked hard to link up play between the midfield and his strikers intelligently. His movement and work rate today is definitely not proportionate to his age.
Gabriel Agbonlahor (72' off) - 6.5
Was only involved for brief spells of the game, but used his pace to good effect everytime he tore down the flanks.
Darren Bent - 6.5
Took his chance in stoppage time of the first half to double Villa's lead, but followed in his skipper's footsteps and conceded a penalty after a poor challenge on Koscielny.
Gary Gardner (72' on) - 5
Came on to make the numbers on the pitch as he barely did anything productive down the right.
Barry Bannan (82' on)
