PREVIEW: Basel in must-win game

Basel must prevail at Genk if they are to guarantee their passage into the knockout stages of the Europa league.

Leaders Genk are three points clear at the summit of Group G and only need to avoid defeat to ensure they will ease into the round of 32 as pool winners.

As long as third-placed Videoton fail to beat Sporting Clube de Portugal, Basel will also progress - and could yet snatch top spot for themselves.

"It is a massive objective for us to go through but we still have one game left, in Genk," said Basel goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

"Games in this competition are never easy but we will see - it is a real target for us to still be competing in the Europa League after the winter."

Basel defender Fabian Schar is pleased that his side remain the masters of their own destiny.

"It was important for us to beat Sporting in the last round. Now we hold matters in our own hands. In Genk we can control our fortunes independent of other results," he said.

Genk striker Jelle Vossen insists only top spot will be satisfactory for his team.

"Everybody was unbelievably happy after we qualified by beating Videoton in the last round," he said.

"It's the first time that we have gone through in Europe, so it was a big night for the team and the club.

"We have some good games coming up now but first it's important to finish the job against Basel.

"We want to take at least one point from the game and finish the group unbeaten. Then we will see who we will play."
