Grp L: Helsingborg vs Twente Preview

Visiting FC Twente are hoping to get back to winning ways at Helsingborg's Olympia Stadium after suffering a first defeat of the season on Saturday.

Steve McClaren

Steve McClaren's side had enjoyed a fine start to the 2012-13 season, claiming maximum points from their first six Eredivisie matches and enjoying plenty of success in front of goal.

Their unbeaten run continued when they picked up a 2-2 home draw against Hannover in their Europa League Group L opener but they found themselves beaten 1-0 by title rivals Ajax at the weekend.

McClaren's men have a landmark to live up to Thursday, a fixture that is their 100th in either UEFA Cup or Europa League competition.

Their history also extends to a 100% qualification record from the group stage, having progressed to the knockout round on all three previous occasions.

Twente's preparations for the match have been marred somewhat by bad news over the fitness of Leroy Fer.

The midfielder, who started the season impressively only to suffer a knee injury at the start of September, faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

"The operation was more involved than initially expected," said McClaren.

"Leroy has now resumed rehabilitation, but we do not have a date for his comeback to avoid unnecessary pressure on him."

Swedish side Helsingborg were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat at Levante in their previous fixture and need a positive result this time.

They go into the match having agreed a new three-year deal with homegrown goalkeeper Par Hansson.

Announcing the news, sporting director Jesper Jansson said: "We are extremely excited and proud to announce an extension for our team captain (Hansson) with an agreement that extends to 2015.

"Par took the step from the youths to become first-choice goalkeeper. He has been and is an important part of HIF's team building.

"That we have managed to find a solution with Par, who I believe is Sweden's best goalkeeper, feels very good."
