The Portuguese side have returned to continental competition for the first time since 1971 this season having qualified for the Europa League.

They were beaten 3-1 at Viktoria Plzen in their first Group B outing but, after four draws, finally recorded the first win of their domestic campaign against Maritimo on Sunday.

Emanuel now wants to carry the momentum forward as Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv, European regulars playing their 100th match in a UEFA competition, visit the Cidade de Coimbra Stadium.

Emanuel said: "Let's go, of course, with the ambition of anyone who plays at home and look for three points - but we respect their team, which has many Israeli players.

"The victory we achieved last Sunday was morale-boosting.

"We want to be a team that is increasingly competitive.

"This game is in a different competition and is the return of European games to Coimbra after 41 years, which is another motivating factor."

Hapoel are also looking for their first win in the group having been beaten 3-0 by Atletico Madrid in their opening fixture.

They are now in the charge of a new coach in Yossi Abukasis, their former title-winning midfielder and assistant boss.

He has taken over from Nitzan Shirazi, who has moved upstairs to become general manager for health reasons.
