Grp L: Hannover vs Levante Preview

Hannover striker Mame Biram Diouf is ready to unleash his pent-up frustration on Levante as he prepares to make his first start in almost six months.

The former Manchester United man had scored 10 goals in all competitions for Hannover last season before tearing ankle ligaments against Wolfsburg in April.

After a miserable summer, the Senegal international returned from the bench against Nurnberg last week and managed 13 minutes of Saturday's defeat to Hamburg.

And the 24-year-old is now itching to prove he is fit enough to take a place in Mirko Slomka's starting XI on Thursday night as La Liga outfit Levante come to town.

He told Hannover's official website: "Things are getting better from day to day.

"Of course, I've got to work harder than my team-mates, who have already gone through pre-season.

"Every day I give all I can in training. Like all of the players, I want to be ready and I will give everything.

"If the manager picks me, I'll give everything for the team."

Hannover exited the Europa League to Spanish opposition last season, falling foul of eventual winners Atletico Madrid at the quarter-final stage.

Diouf added: "I don't know that much about the team but everyone watches football and I've already seen a Levante game.

"They have very good players and as a result, I'm expecting a tight game.

"We are playing in the Europa League, there are no easy opponents.

"We know that we are at home and that in our own stadium we are very strong.

"After our draw in the first game, we have the chance to pick up our first three points and we must do just that."

Levante, who are yet to concede in Europe this season, are coming up against German opposition for the first time.

Granotes striker Obafemi Martins provides inside knowledge of the Bundesliga, though, having played for Wolfsburg three years ago.
