Veh to try UEFA Cup options

Stuttgart coach Armin Veh admits he will be testing several different options in Thursday's UEFA Cup qualifier against Gyor.

The Swabians qualified for the UEFA Cup after a dramatic Intertoto Cup win against Ramenskoje, and are only two games away from the first-round proper, but still Veh seems to be treating the game more like a friendly match.

"I will rotate a bit, particularly in midfield," he said.

"We don't have first team regulars and reserves - apart from Jens Lehmann, no player has a guaranteed place."

With one eye on the weekend's Bundesliga opener against Borussia Monchengladbach, Veh would have preferred not to have this game right now, but that does not mean that he does not want to win.

"We are favourites, are at home and, if we play as we can, we will get into the UEFA Cup," he said.

"It is not worth discussing whether this game comes at a good time or not - we have got to play it and go through."

Defender Khalid Boulahrouz and striker Cacau are both out, which means Mario Gomez will lead the attack for the Bundesliga side.
