Lithuania hold Russia to goalless draw

Russia coach Dick Advocaat may be feeling less optimistic about his side's preparations for Euro 2012 after seeing them held to a goalless draw by Lithuania.

Football News: Russia

Advocaat was greatly encouraged by a weekend draw with Uruguay but they were far less impressive tonight [Tuesday] with Lithuania striking the crossbar early on and keeping Igor Akinfeev much the busier goalkeeper on the night.

Saulius Mikoliunas hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the area in the second minute, while Russia's best chance was a powerful long-range effort from Roman Pavlyuchenko which stung the palms of Ernestas Setkus just before half-time.

Turkey were 2-0 winners over Bulgaria, with Omar Toprak opening the scoring in the 22nd minute before Burak Yilmaz made sure in the last minute of the match.

Angola and FYR Macedonia also played out a goalless draw tonight [Tuesday].
