Saturday’s Eredivisie round-up: Ajax suffer defeat

VVV-Venlo and PSV both maintained their perfect start to the 2017/18 Eredivisie season as Heracles and Vitesse won their first games. Ajax Amsterdam

VVV were 3-0 victors over Sparta Rotterdam at the Seacon Stadion De Koel with goals from Clint Leemans (44), Tarik Tissoudali (48), Vito van Crooy (90).

Julian Chabot had seen red in the 84th minute for the away side.

PSV defeated AZ 3-2 in an intriguing encounter played at the Philips Stadion.

Dabney Souza put AZ ahead on 18 before Hirving Lozano equalised on 31 minutes for the hosts. Gaston Pereiro (48) gave PSV the lead after the break, with Marco van Ginkel (76) adding third before Wout Weghorst ensured a frenetic finish to the tie with his goal from the penalty mark on 81 minutes.

Brandley Kuwas scored in the 82nd minute to hand Heracles a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ajax.

Hakim Ziyech had given Marcel Keizer's side the lead on 56 minutes, but it was cancelled out just nine minutes later through Paul Gladonh before Kuwas' late killer blow.

And Vitesse had no trouble seeing off NAC Breda 4-1 on their home turf.

Thomas Bruns (2), Brian Linssen (20), Tim Matavz (32) and Milot Rashica (77) all found their range along with Thierry Ambrose (69) for the visiting side.
