Messi was initially a doubt for the match after a thigh injury in the quarter final match against Paris Saint-Germain and failed to make an impact against Bayern Munich in a muted display.
According to official statistics from UEFA, Messi covered 7409m in the match - a whole three kilometers lesser than Bayern wingers Arjen Robben (10,997m) and Franck Ribery (10,487m). However, the Argentine has insisted that he is not affected by the injury and that Bayern deserved the result.
"I had been out for a while without playing since the injury, but I felt fine," Messi said. "I could not do much about the result, it was a pity."
"They have shown they are stronger, they beat us in everything," Messi said. "You could see on the pitch that they were superior."
Messi also admitted that thier chances of reaching the Champions League final are slim after the result but it will not stop Barcelona from trying to get a result in the second leg.
"It will be a very difficult game at the Camp Nou, to come back from 4-0 down," he said. "But we must go for it and try and achieve it. They are good, but we will try. If we cannot do that then, well, we will have to think about next year."
The second leg of the Champions League final will take place on 2 May at Camp Nou.
