Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and the majority of his playing staff have spoken openly about their desire to clinch the club's 10th Champions League title this season.
Although Los Blancos find themselves some way behind Barcelona in the La Liga table, Lotina told Marca that he believes Mourinho's squad stand a much better chance of being crowned champions of Europe compared to their Catalan rivals.
"Real Madrid, not Barça is the favourite to win the Champions League. Madrid has the advantage of not worrying about the league any more, though they’re still playing their best because that’s their duty and because they’re a great team," Lotina stated.
"But it's not the only reason, Real Madrid is a superb team and has better things to offer than Barcelona."
Despite taking the lead twice, Barcelona were forced to contend with a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, after the Ligue 1 side fought their way back into the game via goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Blaise Matuidi.
Lotina pointed out that the Catalan club's weakness in defence would be the cause of their undoing in the Champions League.
"Barça is letting in too many goals and, at this stage of the Champions League, where there are no pushovers left, that can take its toll,"
"Now all rivals are either very good or excellent and there’s no room for any compromises."
