The Ghanaian player doubled AC Milan's advantage deep in the second half after Kevin-Prince Boateng opened the scoring for the Serie A side earlier on.
Barcelona had plenty of possession but found themselves held at bay by a resolute and disciplined Rossoneri side.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Muntari praised Allegri and his team-mates for successfully carrying out their game plan to halt the favourites.
"We listened to our coach, he did a fantastic job. We were very disciplined on the pitch and we managed to close every angle," he pointed out.
"Barcelona is the top club in the world, they have amazing players, and if you play without concentration, they will make you suffer."
The midfielder called on Milan to do whatever it takes to defend their two-goal advantage when the squad travel to the Camp Nou for the return leg.
"Two-nil is a lot, but playing in Camp Nou is not easy," Muntari stated.
"We have this advantage and we will try to do well."
AC Milan will take part in a city derby against Inter Milan for their Serie A fixture this weekend.
