The midfielder was speaking ahead Tuesday's crunch clash between the Spanish champions and the German champions at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Dortmund currently lead Group D at the halfway stage with seven points while Madrid are a point back in second.

"Real Madrid and one other team will go through. I am not going to predict who. But obviously, as a German, if Dortmund do go through that would be great for me as I think they also deserve it," Khedira told the Bwin website.

"They have been German champions two years running and are now playing very well in the Champions League. Personally I would be very happy for them. Although what I hope is that Real Madrid finish in first place, and the rest does not matter to me".

Madrid hold an excellent record against German visitors with 18 wins, three draws, and just two losses from 23 games.

They are also the competition's most successful side with nine titles - including one from the 2001-02 season where they beat (2-1) another German team in the form of Bayer Leverkusen. That final is perhaps best remembered for Real legend Zinedine Zidane's wonderful left-footed volley winner into the top corner.

"Yes, of course I saw it," Khedira said.

"On the one hand I was a German fan who was supporting Leverkusen but, on the other hand, I was also a big fan of Real Madrid because of Zidane. He was my idol, a player who I virtually worshipped.

"It was a great match, and the goal, what can I say? I don't know if there will be another one like that. Deciding a match like that shows his great class. I was sitting in front of the television open mouthed, enjoying the match".

Real will not want to lose Tuesday's clash with Dortmund as they round out the group stage with a tricky trip to English champions Manchester City before hosting Ajax, who currently only trail Madrid by three points in Group D.
