Bayern have started the new league campaign strongly, winning all of their opening six fixtures, and also picked up maximum points from their opening Champions League Group F clash against Valencia.
After losing out to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga title race in the last two years, as well as being defeated by Chelsea on penalties in last season's Champions League final, Hitzfeld believes all that will change this term.
"I think Bayern belong to the big favourites to win the Champions League, because they're stronger this season than last term," he told Welt.
"They will also conquer the Bundesliga this season. The strength in depth is excellent. Bayern can win 5-10% more games than they did last season."
The Switzerland coach also hailed the influence of midfield general Bastian Schweinsteiger, and believes there is no better man to lead the side other than current boss Jupp Heynckes.
"Schweinsteiger's intelligence of play is of the highest quality," Hitzfeld added. "He's the spirit of the team and belongs with the best in the world.
"No one can do better than Heynckes right now. He'll continue training them next year, I'm sure."
Bayern resume their Champions League campaign on Tuesday when they travel to BATE Borisov, who also recorded an opening win against Lille.
