Bayern Munich carry a 2-1 lead with them when they visit the Santiago Bernabeu for the second-leg of the clubs' Champions League semi-final fixture. Sanchis is not surprised Bayern have the advantage, as he sees numerous similarities between the current side and the Champions League-winning Real Madrid side he played for under Heynckes.
"He builds a solid team with an ability to close the game out, or open it up when necessary. When teams aren't balanced they fail to possess these qualities." the Spaniard said to UEFA's official website.
"He brought that quality to the '98 Madrid team and I noticed that the current Bayern side operate in a very similar way."
The former defender shared that Heynckes has always placed a strong emphasis on both the defending and attacking side of the game, and the German manager's teams typically practice both aspects to perfection during training.
"There are certain coaches who rely on a strong defensive structure, and there are others who let their teams attack, utilising the qualities of their forwards." Sanchis stated.
"I think Heynckes is someone who creates a balance between defence and attack, he manages to create very balanced teams and as a result his teams are strong. Heynckes puts a big emphasis on balancing defensive and attacking work on the training ground."
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will play out the return-leg of their Champions League semi-final fixture on Wednesday.
