After putting on a defensive performance during the first leg of the Champions League semi-final fixture between the two clubs, Chelsea managed to record a narrow 1-0 victory, which they will look to protect when they visit Barcelona at Camp Nou.
However, van der Sar told the Daily Mail he hopes the Blues go no further in the competition, especially if they continue with their defensive style.
"For the sake of the game and for football in general, I hope Barcelona win at Camp Nou, I love teams who attack. Chelsea did nothing but defend with nine players and kept lots of players in the middle of the park." he shared.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper also stated the Catalans have themselves to blame for having to chase the tie.
"This tie could have been over by now. I expected Chelsea to lose by a big figure. And it could still have been 5-1 to Barca in the end. Chelsea had just one shot at goal – and they scored." van der Sar said.
Barcelona welcome Chelsea this Tuesday for the return leg of their Champions League semi-final fixture.
