Many had tipped the Italian club to go through to the last eight of the Champions League after they beat Chelsea 3-1 at home. However, an inspired fight-back by the English club at Stamford Bridge saw Napoli bow out of the tournament 5-4 on aggregate. Cannavaro told Rai Sport that his side were not satisfied with their performance in the second leg.
"It hurts to lose like this, we had so many chances to score, but this is the result, we leave the competition with our heads held high." he shared.
"We could barely hear anything on the field. There was a little misunderstanding in Chelsea's second goal, which is a shame."
The central defender also rebuffed the suggestion that his team would be dejected after the loss. Cannavaro declared that the squad are focused on doing well in their Serie A campaign so as to return to the Champions League next season.
"We want to finish third again, even more so after this game because playing in stadiums like this is our goal," he said.
Cannavaro will lead his team out in their next Serie A fixture against Udinese this Sunday.
