The legend, who happens to be Aguero's father-in-law, is regarded as one of the best players of all time - both for Argentina and Napoli.
Maradona played a massive role in helping the unfacied Italian side beat the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan to win their only two Serie A titles, the UEFA Cup and the Coppa Italia between the late 80s and early 90s.
Now £38million signing Aguero, who has gotten off to a dream start at Eastlands, scoring a hat-trick against Wigan on Saturday, has vowed to do for City what Maradona did for Napoli.
"I hope I can help Manchester City do great things like Diego did with Napoli," he was quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
"I'm coming here to help the team develop and win titles and if we can do that this year, it will be perfect. But we'll keep on trying to get better and better and I hope to play a big part in that."
Aguero will seek to help City go as far as they can in their debut in the Champions League, where they face Maradona's former side Napoli on Wednesday.
"I played with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and we had a good campaign.
"With City, we're looking to go as far as we can, but now we're just concentrating on the group stage ."
