Bayern displayed a top-notch performance – these were the words of winger Arjen Robben describing the dominating performance his team displayed at Manchester City FC on Wednesday night.
“We enjoyed playing tonight’s [Wednesday] game; it was a great team performance by us. To be fair, I expected a little bit more from Manchester City because
I think they have a great team but in the end it was an easy game and a great win.
Under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, the European team have displayed a new tenacity on the pitch and another step forward in their bid for the Champions League trophy. Their back-line looked particularly sturdy, with stalwarts like Jerome Boateng leading Bayern’s defence against Manchester City.
“I think overall they gave us a little too much space and we used the space quite well,” continued Robben. “When you know our team, that is what we're capable of – we can keep the ball well and then we can create some chances as we have a lot of quality in midfield and up front.”
The performance also proved that Bayern remain one of the teams to beat as they outclassed their opponents at the Etihad Stadium.
“At half-time we said we needed another goal and to keep playing our football and that's what we did. They also have a lot of great players, they only need one moment and you could see it in the last 20 minutes, [we were] a little bit lacking concentration and they scored a goal – of course then it was 3-0 and the game was over.”
“Let's stay with both feet on the ground, we’re still at the start of the season and it's a long road. We can be happy with tonight’s performance but nothing more than that – we shouldn't speak about [another] final or semi-final, let's just get through this group and see what happens.” Arjen Robben
